Children enjoy expert advice from ballet and tri golf specialists
This term we’ve been very fortunate to have two specialist coaches visit our school to provide taster days for ‘tri-golf’ and ‘ballet’.
Year 5 and 6 children all had sessions with PGA professional golfer Dean Jeeves. He runs the junior section at Wimbledon golf club and is also their academy development officer. Dean gave the children an opportunity to try out a new sport (for some) and taught them some basic skills of chipping and putting. Whilst the children were all having a try, Dean was looking out for ‘gifted and talented’ children to be selected for the schools tri golf squad. They’ll also get a free invitation to play at Wimbledon golf club in the summer, where he’ll be looking for the really talented players to earn a scholarship at the club. We currently have 4 ex-pupils and 2 current pupils on a scholarship at the club. This is something we are very proud of.
This term the school introduced a new club: ballet. The club is run by Dancebites, every Thursday morning in the studio with Estelle, who is a qualified ballet coach. We teamed up with Estelle and the dancebites team to put on 2 morning sessions to allow all the children from Reception to year 3 to have a try at this new and exciting sport which the school is now offering. Both the children and their teachers had a great time learning their ballet positions and how to moving around with elegance and grace. It was great to see so many of them take part and enjoy this experience.
