Gymnasts Go for GOLD!!

On the 31st January and the 7th February Miss Wood had the privilege of taking the school's two gymnastics teams to the Merton borough competition. Every child in each team competed on three events: floor, vault and body management. Both teams competed with grace, determination and positivity throughout the day.
First was the year 5/6 competition. Twenty-three schools entered this event. The children from Poplar performed excellently on each event, and were complemented by the judges for their wonderful body management routines. At the end of the day, the children waited nervously as the results were called out … Poplar finished third! Individual congratulations also go to Nehemiah who won silver for his floor routine and bronze for the third best boy overall , and Gabriella who won gold for her body management routine and bronze for the third best girl overall .
The following Friday was the turn of year 3/4. This event saw twenty-one schools enter from across the borough. Again, the children from Poplar performed exceptionally! The children really enjoyed the day, and for the first time ever for Poplar finished in first place! This means they will represent Merton at the London Youth Games.  Individual congratulations also go to Jae who won silver for his floor routine, bronze for his vault and silver for the second best boy overall, and Sasha who won gold for her floor routine and bronze for her vault.
A huge well done to you all! Also a special thank you and well done goes to Miss Wood for all your hard work and coaching with the children. 2 competitions, 17 medals and 1 trophy.....WOW!!
