Inspired by hockey

During Autumn and Spring term the children had been very lucky to take part in the Quickstart Programme run by Wimbledon Hockey Club. Each week our teachers were supported delivering PE lessons by specialised hockey coaches. All children in year 6 and year 5, and two classes in year 2 were able to take part in this. We are very proud to say that we also had 10 children selected by the club coaches to attend their club as part of a scholarship programme for free!

We were also able to offer all children in years 4 and 5 the opportunity to attend a drop in lunchtime club run by the coaches. We had a great response to this, with almost 70 children taking part in these extra-curricular sessions. From these sessions the coaches selected 20 children to take part at the Wimbledon Hockey Club Festival at Raynes Park High School. We had 3 teams representing the school who were all playing within their own competition. They all had a great time and really enjoyed getting the chance to play on a larger pitch. This also gave them the opportunity to show off their attacking and defending with some fast dribbling and excellent blocking and even more skills that they had learnt over the past two terms. All three teams came away with silver or bronze medals!! Congratulations to all the children involved in this initiative. I hope you continue to play hockey and I look forward to hearing and seeing what you all achieve in the future.
