Year 3 and 4 Gymnastics Competition
Before half term I had the pleasure of taking Poplar's year 3 and 4 gymnastics team to the Merton Borough Key Steps Gymnastics Competition at Canons Leisure Centre. Despite nerves prior to the tournament, the children performed brilliantly, showing great confidence, composure and elegance in front of the judges and other spectators. After a close competition the team finished 6th out of the 20 schools who took part. Gabriella in year 4 also took home the gold medal for the best girl's floor routine! I was particularly impressed with the children's sportsmanship and enthusiasm during the entire event. They represented the school excellently. Well done - we are very proud of you all!

Tag Rugby Triumph
On Tuesday 26th February, two teams of year 5 and 6 pupils took part in the local school's cluster tag rugby tournament. Both teams represented the school amazingly well, achieving some fantastic results throughout the day, and all pupils that took part should be incredibly proud. After a busy day of matches, both teams qualified through to final placing matches, where each won their respective games. This meant that Poplar B finished the day in 7th place, while Poplar A won the grand final in convincing fashion, 3-1, and in turn secured their space in the Merton Borough Finals. Special mentions should go to Rayan and Sam, for their tagging and try scoring exploits respectively, and we wish the children all the best in the Borough Finals this Friday. Well done!

Year 5/6 Football Festival
Last Friday, three teams of years 5 and 6 children set off to participate at Merton’s annual Football Festival at Tooting and Mitcham. The children were very excited to get started and if there were any nerves it did not show. The teams were put into different groups and all played 4 games. As this was a festival and not a competition, no scores were recorded. The emphasis was all about playing football, having fun and enjoying the game……and they did just that!! It was a pleasure to take such an enthusiastic group. Whether they won, lost or drew their games they finished every game with a smile on their face and congratulated their opponents whilst shaking hands.

Year 3/4 Tag Rugby Festival
This Tuesday, all the children who attended the Year 3 and 4 Tag Rugby club were selected to take part in the Merton Tag Rugby Festival at the Old Ruts. We were the only school to take two teams and both performed to the best of their abilities, using all the skills they had gained whilst attending the club. As this was a festival there was no official scoring, it was just about taking part and having fun. It was such a pleasure to see both teams play with increasing confidence and most importantly enjoying themselves. Well done to all the children involved and I hope you continue playing rugby next year or join a club.
