The Charge of the Challenge Runners!
A cold, damp, grey Friday in March saw fifty six Poplar pupils from Years 3-6 marching on to Joseph Hood recreation ground to meet their next sporting challenge: The annual MSSP 'Challenge Run'. This is an event like no other in our Poplar sporting calendar. Girls and boys from each year group will race (1500m) against around 200 other children in Merton to fight it out for a top ten finishing place.
Our children have been using their PE lessons to train for the event and many have attended our before school running clubs. Teachers selected the top 7 boys and girls from each year group to represent the school in this impressive competition. It was busy, with an appreciative crowd cheering the children on; it was also VERY muddy! Needless to say Poplar children proved themselves to be determined and resilient, putting in maximum effort right up to the finish line. The majority finished in the top half; several finished in the top 30; a special mention goes to Lizzy in year 6 and Dominikas in year 3 for their top 10 finishes! And let's not forget Charlie in year 4 who managed to bring home a silver medal after his amazing 2nd place finish!
We were immensely proud of all the children who put in so much effort and showed wonderful sporting behaviour by cheering on the other runners. We would also like to say a big thank you to all the parents who came along to support - it really made the occasion special.
Time to get training for next year!
